What a lovely banquet! As a college student vounteer for an enormous service project, we were celebrating its successful conclusion. I'd had a TERRIFIC week making wise food choices and felt great about so many things.

Each delicious course was beautifully presented and it was EASY to continue my eating plan! There was green salad (a double serving and I put dressing on the side to dip my fork into); lean roast beef (just a slice); rolls and butter (easy to pass up - only homemade ones are worth eating); mashed potatoes (probably fake - who wants 'em?); Green beans (Lots of those!) I was doing great!

Then came the lemon meringue pie. I had subtly passed up everything else. And pie? Though NEVER my thing (especially lemon meringue) - Hey! What the heck! I had calories to spare and didn't want to stand out.

The pie was nasty. I ate it all trying to decide if it was as bad as I thought. Feeling cheated, I stopped for a big bag of M&Ms to eat on the way home. Feeling defiant, I went with my roommates for pizza and ice cream later that day. Feeling disgusted .... well you know the rest!!!! It's the familiar spiral down. Will it last hours? Days? Weeks? Please, oh, please! Where is the bottom?!?!

Just a slice of lemon meringue pie? Hardly!

Although ... if it had been a small piece of my favorite chocolate cake (with frosting) I think I would have been satisfied to draw the line. There's ALWAYS room for something special.

Live and learn!

Much love,
